I write under my real name and nickname which has its positives and negs. It keeps me real, tho. (also lessens my chances that peeps will think I am a stalker or serial killer:)

Gullah is Just so frickin beautiful..
I am curious what you will think of it. The first time I heard it was in 1975 in the grocery store. Back then, there were only 2 groceries.
I was able to understand it immediately. It took my better half awhile. I think that's beacuae I love language. There are varying degrees of Gullah. Some speak w/ just a hint of Gullah. Others (and not always the older generation, either) speak what I call "real Gullah") To the untrained ear, you might think it another language
One man here translated the Bible into Gullah. Unreal.
Do you know what they call dawn?

Fortunately, most people will not even remember that they have Monday off... far from "celebrating." Unfortunately, people do not remember why they have most days off, even when there is good cause to honor/celebrate.
Can Columbus Day be a day of repentance, kind of like Yom Kippur?
I like that. We should look at Columbus day like a day of repentance.
Yes, that would be good. I believe it would be great if students would go to school on Columbus day, in order to learn about the part of history that started with Columbus and that tends to be forgotten too often.

I am also a teacher in a school that sounds very similar to yours. I am also a cohort 10 fellow, and I have been following your blog a bit. I was just wondering what you background is. Please excuse me if you have already said so somewhere on this blog. What did you do prior to teaching? When you say "...your revolutionary agenda may come center stage" what does that mean? What brought you to this place in your life?
Your comments are so bold, and, in so many ways, in line with my experiences. I just want to get a sense for the context you make this commentary from.
