Is Our Children Learning?

Check it out. I am thankful for my readership. I feel connected to an educational blog community- which feels great to be a part of. Sometimes, I just need that outlet, that voice, those typed words to express what I want to express.

I want to extend an invitation to check out the blog of one of my colleagues that I just met, virtually (cohort 14 NYCTF) who reached out through a comment on one of my recent posts.     Thanks for the link, it will be my first next visit. Being part of the edublogging sphere has extremely enhanced my teaching experience. Being able to post on the ups and downs (like my post yesterday) of teaching, and having other teachers think along and offer support, is amazing. You've got a great blog!

    glad to hear from you again! You've been kind of quiet (blogging-wise) lately. I saw your post on another blog (eduwonks or something?! some conversation about the NYCTF program)--I loved what you said about, "a poster in the subway didn't lead me to the Teaching Fellow's program" and was going to quote you in my interview, but didn't have the chance. I'm now in the "three-to-four week" waiting period and will see what will be . . . I'm hopeful, but I don't feel like I did such a great job that it's time to pack my bags yet. But we shall see! I look forward to following your experiences this year and am hopeful that even this middle-aged white chick will be able to go into it with the same positive attitude you've shown.

    i just want to remind ye teachers what you are fighting for. i carved out a sense of self in school because of you folks. when the lines dips in the graph, remember what i say: teachers were my parents growing up. school was my sanctuary. i'm remembering those days with images and words here. come by to get rejuvenated.

    I'm a Cohort 14 NYC Teaching Fellow who may not last very much longer. I give you all a lot of credit for hanging in there. I'm fried already and am looking for another position. All I wanted was to teach and to try to make a difference. But due to various issues: bahavior, paperwork, administration, etc. I really can't tell if I like teaching or not. It has been a bad experience for me. Honestly, I don't even want to go back on January 2nd. Good luck to everyone.

    HI!!

    I don't know you, my name is Rachel and I came across your blog while researching ESL in NYC. I hate to bother you, but I need some help and advice and have no one to ask... I am thinking of doing the fellowship program for ESL. I have heard so many mixed things. I have heard on one hand the schools aren't safe, they feel like jail and the kids are unruly, the administration is awful and most teachers drop out. Then, I hear it is ok, rewarding etc... you seem to like it and from your profile we seem to be similar. Is it overwhelming being in school and starting a new job at one time? what is the work load like? Can you please tell me about your experiences, where you teach, if you like it, if you want to stay teaching, what you would have done differently, what a typical day is like? etc... and please be honest I don't care either way, just need info. Thank you in advance if you decide to take the time to respond to this!!
