One of my students, “Nick,” told me that if I don’t give him a birthday present, that he will send me to the “Pit of Death” in Sparta (think the movie 300), to burn and rot forever!
We shared a good laugh.
Needless to say, I’m gonna get my man a birthday gift- lol!

I just read your post of Feb 4th and I'm at awe! What an amazing thing to read and discuss with your student. I am sure it makes him feel special and loved, and it challenges him to read and give his opinion. Truly beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI was just accepted into the Fellowship as a special education teacher. I'm also a young black male. Reading your blog is very inspirational. I want to learn more about how special education works before I make my decision.
From your experiences in CTT, are you responsible for creating lessons, assigning homework, and grading? Or are you primarily there to provide additional support to the general education teacher's lesson plan? Also, is it possible to be certified to teach a subject down the road? Ultimately, I want to teach special education and English.

ReplyDeleteI've applied to the NYC Teaching Fellows and was invited to interview. I've been searching around online and your blog popped up. I want to say 'thank you' for the perspective you have. Most of what I've found online has been pretty negative...but you seem to be positive and be motivated by a strong desire to see your students succeed. This has been a breath of fresh air.

ReplyDeleteAfter you interviewed for NYCTF how long did it take for you to find out whether you were accepted? Did the status show "Interview Compeleted" then "Accepted" or did it show "Decision Pending" then "Accepted". I'm an African American female who interviewed on March 1st and am trying to get a sense of how NYCTF operates. I have "Interview Compeleted" Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
